There are several fun party games for kids. The best way to find games that will be fun for your party guests is to have your son or daughter test the games out. There is wide variety of options you can choose. You can create a sensory home gym, establish a kiddy party place at home and so many more. Play the games with your child and if they enjoy the games then their friends probably will too.
Red Rover – A fun outdoor game where the kids divide into 2 teams and each form a line holding hands. The lines of kids need to be a good ways apart. The team that will go first decides which member from the opposite team they will choose. Then they say “Red Rover Red Rover send (name) right over”. As they sing that tune they swing their arms. The player who has been chosen must charge the team and try to break through the chain. If they do not break through then they join the team. If they do break through then they pick a member to take back with them to their original team. Once a team has captured all members they win.
Hot Potato – Form a circle, sitting or standing is fine. The parent is the caller and must not be looking at the kids. The hot potato, which can be a ball or bean bag, is passed around quickly and when the caller says stop the one holding the hot potato is eliminated. The last one standing is the winner.
Red Light, Green Light – Kids start about 15 to 20 feet away from the parent. Parent says “green light” and all of the kids can walk towards the parent. When the parent says “red light” everyone has to stop moving. If anyone moves then they have to go back to the starting line. The point is to get to the parent first.
Relay Races – This is an outdoors activity. Make a couple of teams and give each team a party themed item.
This item will be passed between team members at designated points in the race. Set up a track and have the team members spread out along the track. The first member begins with the party themed item and when the parent yells “go” the first team member runs around the track to the second team member and hands them the party themed item. This continues until the last team member crossed the finish line with the party themed item.
Some other really fun party games:
Pin the Tail on The Donkey – This can be catered to your party theme. For example it could be pin the eye patch on the pirate for a pirate themed party or pin the crown on the princess for a princess themed party.
Treasure Hunt – This is always fun to get all the kids involved. You can even hide the gifts and once the kids find them it is time to open them.
Duck, Duck, Goose – Basic game that is fun for kids of all ages.
Simon Says – This listening game can also be tailored to fit any theme. It could be Captain says for a pirate party,
Queen says for a princess party, or even sheriff says for a cowboy party.
Musical Chairs – Always a fun game for kids and adults.
You may want to pick games that you can tweak to match your parties theme. For example if you are having an outer space theme party instead of playing Hot Potato you may want to play Hot Jupiter and use a toy planet.
Parties are a time for everyone to have fun. Games where everyone feels like a winner are always a good idea especially for younger crowds.
