Carpet With Natural Fibers

Natural fiber carpets are made of natural raw materials and their manufacturing takes place without the usage of any harmful chemicals. They are generally wool, wool and hemp blend, jute, glass based, sisal fiber based, silk or linen based etc. Fibers can be classified as protein fibers that are made by insects, and Vegetable fibers that are made by plants.

Wool

Wool obtained from sheep is initially cleaned with the least amount of carbonization possible. It is the fiber that mars the absorption of water thus protecting the carpet from spillages. They are best when used in an area that is dry, and well ventilated. It can be really expensive but it is considered to be the best carpet type made.

Silk

Silk is considered to be strong and fire proof. Unlike wool, it is prevents static as well. Silk is obtained from silk worms. They are considered to be one of the best choices.

Wool/Hemp Blend

The unique feature of this blend is its ability to resist mildew. Wool offers durability while hemp helps in preventing pests and strength as well.

Cotton

Cotton though weak when dry becomes strong when subjected to wetness. They are alkaline resistant and strong in nature. Cotton gets damaged easily, is prone to mildew and soils down with passage of time. They become rugged and gets worn off as well. Jute

This is the fiber that is really soft. In spite of being an absorbent, it can withstand a great amount of abrasion. Mildew and Mold are prevented due to the property of jute.

Sisal

Sisal is obtained from agave plant. The process of its manufacturing is free from any chemicals and is totally natural. Sisal is strong and can be made into various patterns. They are durable and resistant to fire. However, it is prone to moisture therefore it is best suited for indoor use.

Grass based

These are anti static and strong in nature. They are usually lower in cost and can be great when used.

Seagrass

Seagrass is durable but cannot be possibly dyed. It is usually used as a blend with fiber materials to make the carpet more durable, strong and spillage resistant.

Linen

Linen is obtained from flax plant. It is durable, strong and readily resists wear and tear. It is flexible and soft in nature.

Coir Fiber

This fiber has a natural color but to make it more attractive it can be dyed and bleached. Coir can be subjected to a huge amount of abrasion therefore it is strong in nature. It mars the attraction of insects as well as it is fire resistant. It is considered to be the most durable fiber. Coir can be used for a long term.
